Two black dial Seiko 8223-500A / 8229-703B

The quartz movements in these two watches are of more or less the same model (8222/8223/8229), yet are branded as Silverwave and Type II respectively.

I received the 8229-703B from a job lot, whereas 8223-500A was from a separate order.

Both had the same issue: with a fresh battery the second hand twitches but doesn't run, a typical sign of dirty wheels.

Definitely in the case of 8223-500A.

With the service manual and YouTube video available online, anyone can easily learn to service a quartz watch using the 8222/8223/8229 movement, thanks to its simple design and easy assembly and disassembly.

See how simple they are.

One may want to be careful about the tiny dial side wheels pinging off the tweezers though.

After a service, both watches run accurately and reliably like how a quartz watch should.
